Site Valet Login

Login and Master Window

The Site Valet master window serves two purposes. Firstly it provides login and logout for the Valet system. Secondly, it is the only Site Valet window to include a menubar, which serves to access all the Site Valet windows.

Logging in

Login is a conventional username/password sequence. It serves to log you in to the Site Valet database, so a valid username and password for the database is also valid for Site Valet, and your permissions and privileges are determined by the database configuration. Logout will terminate the database connection.

The menus

The menubar is only enabled when you log in, and will be disabled again if you log out. When enabled, it provides access to all the Site Valet Client functions, subject to your privileges.

Logs Submenu

File Menu

This offers program control options and access to logs. File options may be limited to administrative users.

Control Submenu

This should not normally be available in an operational server.

This option opens a window to control the valet daemon and check its status. For operational use, you should never run the Client under the same userid as the daemon, so standard system protections will prevent the controls working.

Logs Submenu

This options open a system log viewer.

Configuration Menu

The configuration menu provides options to control the behaviour of the Valet spider and analysis tools. Configuration options may be restricted to users with administrative privileges. You cannot open more than one instance of any of the configuration windows concurrently.

MIME Types

This options opens the MIMETypes editor, that determines what document types will be checked for validity, accessibility, links and metadata.

Domains

This option opens the domains editor, that determines what domains should be monitored by the service, and reporting options.

General Configuration

This option opens the configuration editor, that determines miscellaneous system-wide configuration options.

Sitemap Submenu

Browse Menu

The browse menu is normally for all users, and provides functions to browse the database by site or by url. You can open multiple browse windows. Browsing pages offers the same basic navigation structure as the Web.

Pages Submenu

The Pages submenu offers a list of the start URLs defined in the domains configuration. Selecting any of these opens a browse window on the URL.

Sitemap Submenu

The Sitemap submenu offers a list of the base URLs defined in the domains configuration. Selecting any of these opens a sitemap window on the URL.

Query Menu

The query menu is normally for all users, and provides functions to query the database for information of interest. You can open multiple instances of any query window, although there is little point in having more than one open.

This options opens a validity query window.

Query Accessibility

This options opens an accessibility query window.

Query Links

This options opens a links query window.

Query Metadata

This options opens a metadata query window.

Help Menu

The Help menu provides access to the Site Valet help pages. These are always available, regardless of permissions. Help pages are displayed in your web browser, which is determined by the environment variable BROWSER or defaults to mozilla.
