Site Valet is unique on the Web. Two years on, there is no other site that even approaches our old monitoring service, let alone the new QA Programme!

Free Trial

We are pleased to offer free trial subscriptions to the Site Valet QA Programme. You have the full benefit of the service for one month, after which you choose whether to subscribe at the normal rate or to discontinue the service. During your trial period you will receive whatever email reports you have specified (at a frequency of approximately two per month), and you also have the benefit of the full range of online reports available on demand as soon as the spider has visited your site.

How to Sign Up

To sign up for this service, you must create a configuration file valet.txt at your site. This requirement is a simple security measure: we don't want people signing up sites at random, and we reckon that someone who can upload to a site can also legitimately sign it up for this service.

The signup process

  1. (optional) Read about Site Valet configuration and review your robots.txt.
  2. Use this form to generate a valet.txt file.
  3. Upload your valet.txt file to your website.
  4. Use the activation form to activate the service. Site Valet will read your valet.txt into the subscriber database.
  5. Add the Mark of Quality to your pages, to assure your visitors of your commitment to them.

Note that you can change your configuration at any time, by updating your valet.txt and re-running the activation form.

Costs and Comparison

The cost of the Site Valet QA Programme depends on the size of your site. This is measured (1) in HTML pages and (2) in total URLs at your site (the second figure includes your scripts, stylesheets, images, sounds, etc in addition to your pages). External URLs are not counted.

The basic small/medium-site charge is £30 per year, plus:

Charges for larger sites will be based on this scale, but may be negotiable. Owners of larger sites may also prefer to run Site Valet on their own servers.

Comparison to the former monitoring service

This programme supersedes the Site Valet site monitoring service, which has been operating since early in year 2000. The cost of the new service is broadly similar, but the one-off signup charge has been dropped.

One feature of the previous service has been lost: the choice of report frequency. Email reports will now be sent about twice a month, and the different components of the reports have also been separated.

The new service also offers some major enhancements, previously available only in the Site Valet Intranet Edition:
